  Mel Brooks
A funny thing happened the other day...
Last weekend we bought a secondhand chest of drawers of a guy on 85th St. We thought we'd need a taxi to get it home, it was quite heavy even though we only had 10 blocks to go. So we carried it to Central Park West [with the help of a very nice weightlifting lady, who gave Carrie a helpng hand at her end - thanks whoever you are!]. We set it down and waited for a cab.
Then Mel Brooks appeared next to me with a friend, waiting to cross the road into the park! I tried to get Carrie's attention, but she was pretty oblivious. Mr. Brooks noticed me nudging Carrie and said to his friend, "hey, check out this guy saying to his lady, hey theres Mel Brooks - and I bet she says who the hell is Mel Brooks!
I said yes I was, and she probably would!
He was a nice chap. He stopped for a bit to talk to us [not very showbiz!], ask us where we were living and why we were here etc, wished us well and was on his way with his friend, whom he introduced as being the musical director of 'The Producers' stage show.
Well, what can I say ?
Should have got a picture!

  Columbus Street Festival
Last weekend was the Columbus Street festival, stalls stretched up from 65th to 85th Street. It was pretty busy.

and of course Carrie enjoyed her lunch as usual...

Then we went to Central Park for the afternoon and read some books...

  We're here.....
Well its been a busy few weeks...
but we're finally here now and sort of getting settled in.
We've found a nice apartment, on the Upper West Side. We're on 75th Street, inbetween Columbus and Central Park West, so we're very close to the park. It takes us both about 30 minutes to get into work. Carrie's been at work for 2 weeks, and I've done one week.
This is our apartment, empty when we moved in...

here is a picture of our street

We've managed to get quite a bit of furniture over the past fortnight, mostly courtesy of Craigslist, flea markets, the secondhand thrift shop over the road on Columbus, and some bits have even been found dumped on the street! [see if you can guess which bits they are!] We also bought the biggest bed in the world, off a French monsieur who was moving back to Paris....

  Carrie goes for a swim
Here are a few pictures of the other weekend, when Carrie's parents, Ralph and Silvana came up to meet my parents. Also with them was Carrie's youngest sister Gill and their two Welsh Springer Spaniels. Here we all are in the pub for hearty lunch!

Afterwards we needed a walk, so we took the dogs [Tess, Rupert and Rory] up to the pond..

Unfortunately, Carrie threw a stick for one of the dogs, and her bracelet followed it into the pond! So we spent the next 15 mins wading for it! What a silly girl! We didn't find it in the end..

Location: New York, United States

This is not the best pic of us both, but until we find a better one, it'll do. We were in Moscow, thats why it looks cold, and we couldn't find anyone to take a picture for us. We'll be adding to this blog as we (try and) set ourselves up for a couple of years in Manhattan.
