some pictures of us, our family and our mates..
We thought a good way to start would be to post some pictures we've had for a while, mostly of us in various places, and our friends and family. Then they can all have a look at themselves...

This is my (Rich's) family at home last Christmas (2004). I'm at the back on the left, next to my Dad, and my Brother Rob. Sitting down from left to right is Rob's wife Sarah, my Mum, my sister Lucy, and Carrie, the other contributor to this blog. On the floor is the family Laborador, Tess.

Here is a better picture of Tess, she like to put her head through the cat-flap. We went through quite a lot replacement cat-flaps when she was a puppy.

This is the newest addition to our family, Henry. Henry was born on the 5/5/05, and is the first child of Rob and Sarah. He is also my first Nephew and our parent's first Grandson. Rob, Sarah, and Henry are living in sunny San Diego at the moment, but I hope you meet the little fella soon.

Heres is a pitcure of some of our friends from my home town, Hertford. On the left is me, then theres Stuart Keano, Jon Ryano, Nigel Davies, Barney Davies, Michelle, Anna, and Moz. I went to school at Richard Hale Boys with Jon, Stuart, Moz, and Barney. Anna and Michelle are the other better halves of Moz and Jon. This is all of us on a big night out in London, Carrie is unfortunately taking the picture. I think this was in Covent Garden somewhere...
Here are some pictures of us diving with our mates in Imperial College Underwater Club.......

This is us diving in Normandy, France, on the Loyal Watcher. We went there on the 60th anniversary of the D-day landings (June 2003) and spent a fantastic week diving the many wrecks along the Normandy coast. The wreath on the picture was laid as a tribute to those who lost lives during the landings.
From left to right there is; James Duncan, Rich Heads, Me, Dimitri, Marcus Newbold, Carrie, Karen Knapp, Andy Shallcross, Ben Crossett, Ben Thompson, James Cantley, and James Clark.

This is a group of hardy souls who went to the frozen wastes of the Russian White sea in February 2004 to learn how to ice dive. Despite the cold, a brilliant week was had by all, mostly in the banya getting a damn good birching!
From left to right (sort of) is; Micha (our ice-diving instructor god), Carrie, Ben Thompson, James Cantley, Chris Hall (in water), Tim, Me, Natascha (another instructor), Marcus Newbold, Nick Jones, Joe Parker, and Alan Ahern.
Finally some good pictures of Carrie and Me....

This is us on top of the Empire State building, NY, February 2003. We got there just as the sun was setting and it was superb...and glad to say quite chilly.

Here we are knee-deep in snow at the Grand Canyon, December 2003. This was in the middle of a long road trip which took in San Francisco, Carmel, The Big Sur coast on hwy 1, Morro Bay, Las Vegas, The Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Phoenix, and Finally San Diego, to see Rob and Sarah. A great trip. Jolly large Buick just out of shot unfortunatly.
This was taken this summer, on a dive trip to Lundy Island, to show everyone how lovely the UK can be. This is a waterfall near the small fishing village of Clovelly, North Devon. Boats leave from Clovelly to take people to Lundy island.
An introduction
Carrie and I have started this blog as a sort of diary so our friends, family, and any who is interested can follow our progress as we move from the UK, our country of citizenship, to New York, where we'll be working for the next couple of years. We hope you enjoy the posts along the way and we'll try and put as many pictures on here so you can all see how we're getting along.
We've both just finished our PhDs and are moving to the US to work as research scholars in two different scientific institutions on Manhattan. At the moment we're still in the UK; we should be leaving at the beginning of September. Before then however theres plenty to organise!
Apart from our work we both really enjoy scuba diving. We've been diving around the coast of the UK for many years, and are looking forward to seeing what New York and the surrounding areas has underwater too! We both love travelling and hope to use the next few years to see as much of the US as our jobs will allow! Watch this space.......
